Let’s say you just got a check for 1.5 kilobucks from an insurance settlement, and you want to turn that into a fun beater you can kick around on the weekends, smoke a cigar in and not have to invest a lot of money or wrenching to keep it on the road.

I LOVE sub-2 grand cars. The Saabs are all ridiculously cheap so that is one option. but they are just funky, not really fun to drive. But hey for 1.5k that’s probably the best we can get. Actually, just get a Celica. Preferably the 90-93 with the jellybean body and popup headlights. Convertible.

How about an AW11 MR2!?

Integra with the not stupid looking headlight, EF Civic, Prelude with the pop ups, Saaab 900, 90-93 Celica, Focus ZX3...

you guys are OOOH so slow. am currently $650 into rounding up parts for a cheap truck build up against a friend of mine. $250 for the body, and $350 into engine, and $200 into trans. sold off some sheetmetal bits for $150

its a little ways out, but its in the works. im looking to be in for under $1000 by the time its moving. like ive said in other posts in other places, im project poor. the cool part, is that i always have opportunities to keep myself occupied. more about spending the time to do the work. I’m not +in love+ with Miatas, but I’m buying a second one as a daily driver/track day car, because I’m buying used, and the maintenance on these things is really good. I’ve used my first one as a DD for the last four years, and at ~155000 miles, it costs me about $1000 per year in periodic maintenance and occasional (wheel, tinting, and so on) upgrades.
(Now that 1985 Celica GT—WANTS!)
